BASIS Charter Schools Holiday Traditions

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The arrival of winter always brings with it the whirlwind of the holiday season. The holidays become more special when they’re spent honoring, or creating new, traditions with family and friends. This holds true at BASIS Charter Schools too. Along with our longstanding tradition of academic excellence, each winter, our schools come together as communities to bring out the true spirit of the season.

The holidays are a time for celebrating, and BASIS Charter Schools never shy away from honoring their students’ successes and achievements. Many of our schools hold end-of-grading-period award ceremonies to recognize students’ academic accomplishments and character growth.

Scottsdale Primary West Costume Day

Students in the high school grades celebrate the season by dressing in their finest attire to attend a Winter Formal—some of these dances even have fun themes, like BASIS Ahwatukee’s The Nutcracker, BASIS Prescott's Masquerade Ball, and BASIS Tucson North's Red Carpet Event. Our schools also get into the holiday spirit with an array of festive events, including:

  • BASIS Chandler’s “Sleep Under the Stars” movie night, during which students can enjoy popcorn and other snacks while watching Home Alone.
  • BASIS Goodyear’s “Holly Jolly Holiday Party,” featuring cookie decorating, stocking and ornament making, and a hot cocoa bar.
  • BASIS Peoria Primary’s annual Holiday Family Luncheon, during which family members can enjoy a catered meal with their student.
  • BASIS Phoenix Central’s Holiday Craft Fair, featuring a variety of homemade goods from students and school clubs, families, and teachers for sale.

However, amid all the holiday cheer and festivities, BASIS Charter School students always take time to help others and give back to their communities. Here’s how some of our schools are giving back this year:

  • BASIS Flagstaff’s chapter of the National Junior Honor Society is sponsoring a food drive for the Flagstaff Family Food Center.
  • BASIS Goodyear is partnering with The Honey Foundation to collect blankets, jackets, and socks for the homeless.
  • BASIS Scottsdale Primary West’s student council is holding a toy drive for Branching Out Family Services, to aid foster children in Arizona.

Baton Rouge ExtravaganzaOur talented students put on some spectacular winter performances. A few of these include, BASIS Mesa’s Winter Music Concert, BASIS Prescott’s Drama Showcases, BASIS Ahwatukee’s Piano and Strings Concerts, BASIS San Antonio Shavano’s Fine Arts Winter Concert, and BASIS Baton Rouge’s Winter Wonderland Extravaganza Showcase.

From the BASIS Charter Schools family to yours, happy holidays and best wishes for a wonderful new year.
