BASIS Charter Schools offer a nationally acclaimed curriculum that challenges and engages students
All students deserve to have an engaging and fulfilling educational experience. At BASIS Charter Schools, we inspire students to love learning and empower them to achieve academically at internationally competitive levels. We believe that every student can succeed when provided with a challenging curriculum and the proper amount of support and guidance. BASIS Charter School teachers set high expectations and engage students in a rigorous course of study designed to push their academic boundaries and motivate them to master advanced material. Our teachers celebrate student success and encourage students to expand their academic horizons and think in new and different ways. They instill in students the ability to view difficult problems as challenges, and to learn from their mistakes. By the time they graduate, BASIS Charter School students have the knowledge, tools, and confidence to make a difference in the real world
Here are some of the ways we challenge and engage our students to help them reach their full academic potential.
World-class BASIS Charter School Curriculum
BASIS Charter Schools offer a STEM-inspired liberal arts curriculum that fuels critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving. Students in our kindergarten program benefit from our co-teaching model, which places one Lead Kindergarten Teacher, an early education expert, and one Teaching Fellow, who assists with learning, in each classroom. Likewise, students in grades 1–3 have one Learning Expert Teacher, a pedagogy specialist, and one Subject Expert Teacher, a content expert, in each classroom. In middle school, our students far exceed traditional standards and go on to master high school content. Our high school curriculum requires self-motivation and refined critical thinking skills, as students must demonstrate a mastery of complex concepts through AP® courses and exams.
Supportive and engaging teachers
Due to the advanced nature of our curriculum, classes are taught by subject matter experts, many of whom hold an advanced degree or have extensive field experience in their respective subjects. Our teachers thoughtfully develop engaging lessons aligned with our nationally acclaimed curriculum that inspire creativity and critical thinking. During lessons, they focus on building students’ knowledge through active learning instead of having them only listen to lectures. Our teachers do this is by leading dynamic class discussions, during which students explore different angles of a topic by analyzing multiple perspectives and participating in respectful, friendly debate.
Interdisciplinary learning plays an important role in the BASIS Charter School Curriculum, as it challenges students to hone their critical thinking skills and connect content from different courses—we even have a class called Connections for grades 1–3. Making interdisciplinary connections allows students to see how complex concepts relate to each other across the academic disciplines and supplies them with an impressive breadth of knowledge.
One of the most effective ways to engage students is through hands-on activities. This allows students to apply what they learned in class to real-world situations, further sparking their interest in different subjects. Our students participate in content-related activities such as growing plants in plastic bags, building card houses that can hold a math book, making the phases of the moon out of cookies, crafting quill pens while learning about Shakespeare, and creating wildlife habitats out of household items.
At BASIS Charter Schools, your student will engage in a nationally acclaimed curriculum taught by bright and passionate teachers who are experts in the subjects they teach, and who inspire students to achieve academic success.
